"Melky Cabrera was recalled by the New York Yankees from the Bombers' Triple-A affiliate Columbus in May, 2006, to replace an injured Hideki Matsui in left field and quickly became a fan favorite. On June 6, 2006, Cabrera garnered nationwide attention by deftly stealing a home run from Manny Ramirez in the eighth inning of a Yankees-Red Sox game at Yankee Stadium, when Cabrera reached over the left center field wall to retrieve a sharp line drive. The potential home run would have tied the ballgame at 2-2; the Yankees won the game 2-1. Melky Cabrera has hand signed this 2008 All Star baseball.
Big Noyd

Representing Queensbridge to the fullest, Big Noyd (also known as Rapper Noyd), has been spitting criminology on wax since the mid-1990s. A close affiliate of QB thug pioneers Mobb Deep, Noyd has worked with them on several classic tracks. In 1996 he released his excellent (though slept-on) debut LP Episodes Of A Hustler on Tommy Boy. Full of vivid drug tales and gat clap stories set to Havoc's trademark grim beats, it flaunted street anthems like "Recognize & Realize" and "Usual Suspect." Big Noyd has continued to collaborate with the Mobb, and was featured on their 2002 single "Burn."

Miami-based Terror Squad affiliate DJ Khaled has one of the biggest rolodexes in the business, and he puts it to good use on his excellent Koch debut. Jadakiss (aka "Al Qaeda Jada") and Beanie Segal deliver street bravado and meta-rap critique over the eerily hypnotic piano line of "Problem." The smash hit "Holla at Me" is spare and propulsive, and features Lil' Wayne, Paul Wall, Pitbull and Rick Ross -- making it one of the best Southern posse cuts of this decade. Elsewhere, Twista, T.I., Kanye West, John Legend and Young Jeezy show up to give their support.

For their second album, Boot Camp affiliate Heltah Skeltah took a more commercial route, for better and worse. Emcees Rock and Ruck (aka Sean Price) still make a great combination, with Ruck delivering sharp, sometimes acidic lines about the difference between a pawn and a rook (one guess which camp he falls into) and Rock delivering looser, more stylized raps. There are way too many guest spots, and the subject matter is lighter and monotonous, but single "I Ain't Having That," the title track and "Call of the Wild" deliver that old Heltah Skeltah griminess.
