Monkey Dust is a cutting-edge comedy animation created by an award-winning team of writers and visualised by some of London's finest young animators. Set in a permanent urban nightmare, Monkey Dust is a nocturnal world and its satirical targets range across the whole spectrum of British society.

Monkey Dust also features occasional celebrity appearances from the likes of Robbie Williams, Eminem and Sven-Goran Eriksson, as well as a brief cameo from DJ Neil Fox, who dies a hideous death.

What would it sound like if you took an accomplished producer and some of the biggest names in pop and locked them in a karaoke bar for the weekend? It might resemble this album, a collection of fun and energetic cover versions adroitly performed by the likes of Lily Allen, Robbie Williams and Amy Winehouse. Purists (particularly Smiths and Jam fans) might cringe at "Stop Me" and "Pretty Green," respectively, but there's no denying that this is homage rather than abasement, and even the most po-faced Radiohead fan will crack a smile at "Just."

With his Freddie Mercury-like vocals, Mika makes a splash with the fabulously campy "Grace Kelly," but he can't quite measure up to the single on his debut. That said, there are some great moments here. Songs such as "My Interpretation," "Erase" and "Stuck in the Middle" point to a solid piano-driven pop sound with a Robbie Williams-like charm, and the infectious "Love Today" features a percolating, Scissor Sisters-inspired disco beat.

Dean Martin's very cool corpse has been dug up so that he can duet with current crooners like Joss Stone, Robbie Williams and Martina McBride (who does Kay Starr). This is way better than it has any right to be, and it's helped along by tightly edited volleys of Martin's sly studio patter. Unlike similar projects, nobody embarrasses themselves and everybody comes off as simpatico to Martin's way of doing things. Among the top performers are Shelby Lynne, Chris Botti and Kevin Spacey (who does a spot-on Dino impersonation -- which is kind of bizarre on a duet).

Rudebox

Rudebox is the product of a boy who grew up in England's playgrounds of the 1980s: fixation on the pop of the Top-40, wonder at the emergent sounds of hip-hop and a list of insults so puerile they'd make a baby blush. That Robbie Williams is the boy in question means that the Pet Shop Boys ("We're the Pet Shop Boys"), Sly & Robbie ("Rudebox") and Mark Ronson have indulged him, but whether his fan base will is another question. There is some great music here (see Lewis Taylor's "Lovelight"), but, sadly, the only lyric delivered with any conviction is, "No feeling in your heart."

Gary Barlow, Howard Donald, Jason Orange, Mark Owen and Robbie Williams five Manchester lads who became the biggest band in the land, Take That. They hit the big time in 1992 with their cover of Tavare's It Only Takes a Minute and instantly become a media sensation. Not since The Beatles had the UK seen such popularity thrust on one band. This DVD tracks their explosive rise to fame from their small town beginnings to superstardom. It features exclusive rare archival footage including many of their early TV interviews. Launched as the UKs answer to New Kids on the Block, Take That set the bench-mark for all-singing, all-dancing boy bands. This is the definitive account of their early years.

Who the hell is Mark Ronson? A superstar DJ from London who makes big-beat dance tracks with cameos from Brit-pop stars -- what is this, the freakin' Nineties? He's just scored a huge club hit with his nipple-hardeningly brilliant cover of the Smiths' "Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before," with R&B vocalist Daniel Merriweather surging into the Supremes' "You Keep Me Hangin' On." Weird, but it works -- and it's a Number Two hit in the U.K., where they still have radio. Version is an audacious set of similar left-field covers (Radiohead's "Just," the Jam's "Pretty Green") turned into dance-soul tracks -- Lily Allen sings the Kaiser Chiefs' "Oh My God" like she thinks it's Bill Withers' "Use Me," Amy Winehouse turns a Zutons obscurity into Motown, and Robbie Williams gives it up to a beloved Madchester oldie, the Charlatans' "The Only One I Know."

Daniel Powter

Hot on the heels of James Blunt's soft-pop success is Daniel Powter, a small-town Canadian whose debut similarly first conquered Europe. Poppy where Blunt is folky, Powter's tunes follow the Elton John/Billy Joel tradition of radio-friendly piano rock. Lacking the star personality of a Robbie Williams or the wit of a Ben Folds, Powter doesn't rise above his instantly familiar keyboard riffs, yet neither does he drown in them. Instead he rides the hooks that propelled "Bad Day" from its background use in American Idol to the charts, while producer Mitchell Froom supplies the ear candy. Powter's occasional R&B falsetto and light, layered grooves may not ensure him a long career, but neither will they ruin your day.
